Mangatarem is a landlocked municipality in the coastal province of Pangasinan.
The municipality has a land area of 317.50 square kilometers or 122.59 square miles, constituting 5.82% of Pangasinan’s total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 73,241. This represented 2.48% of the total population of Pangasinan province or 1.46% of the overall population of the Ilocos Region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 231 inhabitants per square kilometer or 597 inhabitants per square mile.
Mangatarem is home to the famous “Daang Kalikasan” road or the Pangasinan-Zambales road. A 19-kilometer scenic road that connects the two provinces. That when completed, shortens the travel time and ultimately stimulates the economic activities between these two provinces. It is best known for its’ Batanes-like scenery, which earned its name,” little Batanes of the North.” Locals and tourists flock in droves to this location.
